Safe and Responsible Boat Disposal
Elgin residents are discovering that an old, dilapidated boat past its prime isn’t easy to get off their hands. The large size and heavy weight of many boats are definitely a challenge while transporting along Elgin Hollow Road. Our crews remove masts, strip the boat of its gear and electronics, and cut off the flybridge if necessary. Because landfills don’t accept most large vessels in one piece, we manage the crushing or demolition so you don’t have to worry about it. We handle it all - you just relax.
Common Boat Removal Scenarios
In Elgin, boats are most often abandoned after flooding along North White Oak Creek, where rising water can strand watercraft far from any launch point. Owners sometimes leave vessels wedged against streambanks or partially submerged near the Brimstone Recreation Area. Scott County removal coordinators work with property owners to document the vessel, establish ownership, and arrange licensed recovery teams to extract and transport the boat safely.
Seasonally stranded boats are another common situation near Smoky Junction, where unpaved access roads become impassable after heavy rain, leaving owners unable to retrieve their watercraft before water recedes. Vessels left along White Oak Creek may shift downstream, creating navigation hazards. In these cases, a certified removal contractor is dispatched to winch or float the boat to a proper staging area before final disposal or return to the owner.
