Why an old RV isn’t just a big piece of junk
A camper that’s been sitting for years is part vehicle, part building, and part chemistry set. This is what we deal with before it goes on the truck.
- Propane tanks and lines: Even a tank that reads empty holds residual vapor. Tanks come off and get handled separately — they don’t ride to the scrap yard attached to the unit, and no reputable yard will take them that way.
- Fuel, oil, and coolant: Motorhomes still hold gas or diesel, engine oil, and coolant. Florida rules are strict about fluids reaching soil or storm drains. We drain and contain before the unit is dragged anywhere.
- Holding tanks: The black and gray tanks are frequently still full, and after a few years the valves have usually corroded shut. This is the part most people don’t want to think about. We do it, and we do it without it ending up on your driveway.
- Batteries and solar: Chassis and house batteries come out for recycling. Roof panels and inverters get separated too.
- Rotted tires and seized axles: Sidewalls go to pieces in Florida sun, and brakes rust solid. Half the RVs we pick up won’t roll at all, which is why we bring winches and skates instead of just a tow ball.
- What moved in: rats, roaches, wasps, and the occasional snake or raccoon family. If the unit is infested, we’ll tell you on the walkthrough and plan the load accordingly.
